Motorcycle Rental in Lisbon

Lisbon is the perfect starting point to explore Portugal by motorcycle. With over 300 days of sunshine per year, mild temperatures, and direct access to some of Portugal's most iconic roads, the city is the perfect base for riders of every level. Portugal has more than 800km of coastline and you must take advantage of that and enjoy the seaside of this beautiful country.

This small and diversified country allows you to ride through the different regions. Portugal's compact geography means you can experience radically different landscapes — mountains, coastline, cork forests and medieval villages.

Practical Information for Your Lisbon Rental

License Requirements

In Spain, a Category A license is required for motorcycles over 35 kW (approx. 47 hp). European licenses are fully recognized. Visitors from outside the EU should carry an International Driving Permit alongside their national license. Minimum age and riding experience requirements vary by model.

Insurance

All rental motorcycles include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW). We recommend adding Extra Coverages to reduce your financial exposure in the event of motorcycle damage. Extra coverage options can be added at booking or at pick-up.

Fuel

In Portugal, you'll fill up with Gasolina 95 (unleaded) or Super 98. Our entire fleet runs on petrol — no diesel bikes.

Pick-up and Return

Our station is located at Rua Castilho, 72 — in the heart of Lisbon — easily reached by taxi from the airport (approx. 15–20 min). Pick-up and return outside regular opening hours can be arranged. Online check-in saves time at the counter.

One-Way Rental

Want to start in Lisbon and return the motorcycle in Faro, Barcelona or another Hertz Ride location? One-way rentals are available — just mention it when booking.

Best Motorcycle Routes from Lisbon

Lisbon sits at the crossroads of some of Portugal's most scenic riding territory. Whether you're planning a day trip or a multi-day motorcycle tour, these are the routes our team recommends most — tested by riders, not travel writers.

Estoril Coast & Cabo da Roca — The Classic Atlantic Ride

The EN6 coastal road west from Lisbon is a ribbon of smooth, fast tarmac hugging the Atlantic shoreline all the way to Cascais — wide curves, clean sightlines, the ocean always on your left. Past Cascais, the road climbs sharply into the Sintra hills: tight switchbacks through pine forest, salt air giving way to cool shade. Push on to Cabo da Roca — the westernmost point of mainland Europe — and you're rewarded with dramatic sea cliffs and nothing but ocean ahead.

Serra da Arrábida — The Road Riders Don't Talk About

Cross the Tagus and head south into the Setúbal Peninsula for one of the best-kept secrets in Portuguese motorcycling. The roads through Arrábida Natural Park are narrow, technical and constantly changing — Mediterranean forest pressing in on both sides, with flashes of impossible turquoise water through the trees below. A road that rewards focus and punishes rush.

Sintra — The Fairy-Tale Route

Just 30 km from Lisbon, but a completely different world. The roads through Sintra-Cascais Natural Park wind through dense, fog-laced forest with sudden elevation changes and blind crests that keep you honest. The lanes around Pena Palace are narrow and demand full attention; the reward is a landscape that feels genuinely otherworldly. Short in distance, long on sensation.

Évora & the Alentejo Plains — The Long Road East

Leave the coast behind and head east into one of Europe's last great unspoilt landscapes. Long, open roads roll through cork forests, golden wheat fields and whitewashed villages with almost no traffic. The tarmac is smooth, the pace entirely your own. For riders who want miles, silence and space, this is the route. Évora — Roman temple, medieval walls, UNESCO heritage — is the perfect excuse to ride through Alentejo.

Oeste Coast to Nazaré — Atlantic All the Way

Head north from Lisbon and follow the Atlantic coast through clifftop roads, fishing villages and wide open straights. Past Peniche, the landscape opens up and the riding gets fast and free. Nazaré is the destination: dramatic cliffs, giant waves and one of Portugal's most striking viewpoints. Works equally well as a hard day's ride or a relaxed two-day tour.
