Reception of the tour participants at the airport and transfer to the hotel with Hertz Ride staff. In the evening, our group will get together for a welcome drink, dinner, and a little first surprise to warm us up for the days ahead: a three-hour night motorcycle ride around Rome!
It is said that all roads lead to Rome, and millions of people come to this vibrant city every year to marvel at its unique charm. Only a few do it by night and riding in two-wheels. We leave for this fantastic evening ride right after dinner, and our route will have eight stops in major landmarks, designed to tell us about the history of the city and appreciate all its beauty from a different point of view.
Rome - Orvieto
Our tour begins with a ride to the town of Bracciano to visit the Orsini-Odescalchi castle, dating back to the 15th century, followed by a stop at Sutri’s famous amphitheater, a must-see hidden gem. We will make a journey through time as we move North and visit Viterbo, whose historical center craftily preserves its medieval architecture features.
After lunch in Viterno, we will ride along the lake of Bolsena, stopping in Pitigliano (known as 'Little Jerusalem' for its old Jewish community), and following on to be delighted by the enchanting Civita di Bagnoreggio, an ancient hilltop village only accessed via a pedestrian bridge. Orvieto will be our final destination for this wonderful first day on the road.
Orvieto - Siena
This morning will be dedicated to visiting Orvieto. Its imposing Cathedral is a masterpiece of Italian Gothic architecture of the late Middle Ages and preserves the frescoes of the Last Judgment by Luca Signorelli. We won't miss the chance to throw a lucky coin in the mystical St. Patrick's Well!
We will then hit the road to zigzag along the Sienese hills, stopping at San Casciano dei Bagni, the spa town of the Grand Duke of Tuscany. Lunch will be at the village of Montepulciano, famous all over the world for its amazing wine. Before we arrive in Siena, our night stop for today, another magical moment in our journey will be the visit to the village of Pienza, a superb example of Renaissance architecture.
Siena - Florence
Siena is one of the most celebrated jewels of Tuscany, and we will spend a couple of hours in the morning to get to know a bit of this architectural masterpiece and experience the magical charm of its old buildings, squares, and towers.
On the road to Florence for another overnight stop, we will have a brilliant day discovering the pleasure of getting lost in 'Chiantishire', the classic Chianti wine route. We will ride without haste through small villages whose daily lives revolve around the production of this most famous of all excellent Italian wines. After lunch in charming, mountaintop Volterra, we will end the day riding along the Arno river on our way to Florence.
Our bikes will remain safely parked today, as we explore Florence, the Pearl of the Renaissance! We will have an entire day to get to know or revisit wonders such as the Uffizi Gallery, the church of Santa Maria Novella, the Duomo, and the Piazza della Signoria. We will also experience the evocative view of Ponte Vecchio and admire the David di Donatello in all its majesty. In the evening, get ready to be treated to the best of the excellent local dishes, paired with quality wines and liquors.
Florence – Scarperia
This will be a day of pure motorcycle pleasure on some of the most famous roads in central Italy. We will be thrilled riding the high passes on the border between the Tuscany and Romagna regions: Futa, Sambuca, and Muraglione will become names the motorcyclist in each one of us will always remember.
We will end the day in the beautiful village of Scarperia and its 'Palazzo dei Vicari', dating back to the thirteenth century. This charming small city is considered to be the 100 most beautiful villages in Italy, far away from mainstream tourism, and will host us for a good night's rest.
Scarperia – Porto Santo Stefano
Today we will ride through idyllic valleys in Tuscany, such as the Val di Pesa and the Val d'Elsa, as we move South towards the Tyrrhenian Sea, off the western coast of Italy. At the small town of Castiglione della Pescaia, the view of the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago will set the scene for a marvelous lunch.
Our final destination for the day is Porto Santo Stefano, in the Argentario Archipelago. To get there, we will cross the lagoon of Orbetello, a famous naturalistic oasis that protects an ecosystem that is as rare as it is delicate. On our way, we will visit little gems of the Tuscan Sea, such as the village of Porto Ercole.
Porto Santo Stefano - Assisi
Another relaxing day on the roads of green Umbria. Our morning ride will take us to the beautiful village of Castiglione del Lago, on Lake Trasimeno. The Palazzo della Corgna and the Rocca del Leone dominate the town that stretches out around a lake full of life.
After enjoying some excellent and typical of the area fish for lunch, we will move on to Assisi to experience its profound spirituality. We will have the opportunity to get to know this extraordinary place of faith during the quiet and tourist-free late afternoon hours.
Assisi – Rome
We will dedicate the whole morning to visit many of the most famous monuments and churches in Assisi. The Basilicas of San Francesco and Santa Chiara, with its marvelous frescoes by Giotto and Cimabue, are amongst the most famous places of devotion. The rich medieval history of the city and its lesser-known but equally glorious Renaissance architectural heritage are sure to leave an impression on us all.
On our way back to Rome, we will stop in the romantic hamlet of Narni, a small hill town in the southern border of Umbria. A wonderful dinner in Rome will be the perfect closure of our tour, and the perfect moment to celebrate our group's incredible journey through the green heart of Italy!
